Delorean TaxiBack to the Future fans in NYC are in for a real treat next month as the city begins rolling out a new fleet of hybrid DeLorean taxis. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission approved the new auto design last week after tweaking the cars to be as safe as possible for passengers. Something tells us that there will be a lot of demand for these very special (and fuel-efficient) cabs.1
Delorean TaxiAs you might remember, the DeLorean taxi was originally the brainchiled of designer Mike Lubrano, who conceptualized the vehicle as part of an advertising campaign for New York-based brand Nooka.2
Delorean TaxiEven though they weren't real, demand for the fake taxis was so high that it crashed Lubrano's website, and the commotion eventually caught the attention of the NYC TLC.3
Delorean TaxiAfter a period of back and forth with Lubrano and the DeLorean Motor Company, the TLC was able to finalize plans for an actual DeLorean taxi to roll out onto NYC streets.4
Delorean TaxiThe new taxi will have almost all of the trimmings of the futuristic car we know and love from the 80s films...5
Delorean Taxi...with the exception of the flux capacitor and the ability to travel backwards and forwards through time.6
