The ongoing City Point project is transforming the Fulton Street Mall in Downtown Brooklyn. The first phase, a four story retail complex is already complete, and now the second phase – two residential towers – is in the works. Designed by Cook+Fox with Lee Weintraub Landscape Architecture, the LEED-seeking towers will cap an enormous retail podium, creating a new mixed-use center.

The two new towers will create 650 apartments for the area, with one tower rising 30 stories and the other 19. Although the towers will be neighbors, each will have a different look and feel. Patterns are surfaces of the façade will be different, but complement each other, harmonizing the towers with the massive 50,000 square foot retail base.

Weintraub will infuse the new site with greenery, adding green roofs, landscaped terraces, and park-like areas at varying levels throughout the complex. Recesses on the street wall will also bring green spaces to the street level of the complex.

City Point’s third phase is also being considered, which will complete the complex with an even taller tower. The site of the two towers will overtake the repurposed shipping container Dekalb Market, which Cook says could be partially reopened near the third and final tower in the future to help encourage Brooklyn business.
