New Yorkers can now look forward to even more fresh, locally-grown veggies thanks to Gotham Greens‘ new rooftop farm in Hollis, Queens. The 60,000-square-foot greenhouse is the urban agriculture company’s third and largest growing facility in New York City and will allow the Brooklyn-based brand to triple their high-quality, pesticide-free produce production in the New York region.

Located on Jamaica Avenue, the climate-controlled greenhouse is on the roof of a four-story manufacturing building that formerly housed the Ideal Toy Company. Slated to produce over 5 million heads of pesticide-free leafy greens each year for the New York market, the urban farm was installed with advanced automated greenhouse technologies using various efficient and renewable energy components.

“Opening this new state-of-the-art greenhouse facility in the middle of winter underscores the innovative story of Gotham Greens,” Gotham Greens CEO Viraj Puri said in a statement. “Never before have consumers in our marketplace been able to get locally grown produce this fresh at this time of year.”
