If you're one of the thousands of New Yorkers whose power was knocked out by Hurricane Sandy, you were probably scared, anxious and uneasy. Now imagine yourself in the same situation, except that you're 90 years old, wheelchair-bound or hard of hearing. Many seniors in Lower Manhattan live 20 floors up or higher and are basically stuck in their homes without working elevators, water or power. Others in the "dark zone" of Manhattan have been lining up at fire hydrants for water and huddling up in their apartments for heat. Efforts were underway the past few days to bring food and water to those with no power, but volunteers are still needed today.
