The 250-acre site of the New York Botanical Garden is a historic landmark, home to an incredible natural landscape of hills, valleys, and the Bronx River gorge. The planned gardens and planted collections were designed to accentuate and complement the landscape and native plant life. The Garden offers a widely regarded education and research program through its International Plant Science Center, and curates stunningly beautiful displays like the Caribbean Garden and the orchid show in its greenhouses. Since its inception, the Garden has been steadfast in its devotion to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. It uses energy efficient lighting, motors and other equipment, and it has reduced its carbon emissions and increased recycling. The Garden also hosts a composting program and an outreach program to help green the Bronx.

I recently visit the NY Botanical Garden for the first time to see the Caribbean Garden exhibit — I highly recommend seeing it before it closes on Feb. 27. It really is a tropical escape within the city. I’ll definitely be back to explore the grounds when the weather gets warmer.

The Sakura Cherry Blossom Fest is a yearly tradition for me! Nothing like wandering through the gardens with pink blossoms floating by. You have to do this if you live in New York.
