New York City Bike Share Expected to Launch in July

With much talk about the forthcoming <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/nyc-bike-share-will-have-600-stations-10000-bikes/" target="_blank">New York City Bike Share</a>, the <a href="http://nyc.gov/bikeshare">Department of Transportation</a> (DOT) and <a href="http://www....<br><br><a href='https://inhabitat.com/new-york-city-bike-share-expected-to-launch-in-july/'>READ ARTICLE</a>

The DOT has already installed several covered bike stations throughout the city so that those with private bicycles can securely lock it on the street during the day.

Of all the trips an average New Yorker makes, 54% are less than two miles and the bike share offers an affordable and often more time-efficient alternative to other public transportation options.

The bikes themselves weigh about 43 pounds and feature comfortable seats, durable frames, bells and a basket.

A bike-powered light provides an energy efficient safety feature to increase biker visibility at night.
