Gallery: PHOTOS: Inhabitat Celebrates ...

Lea, Chicago: Matt Nardella, principal architect for Moss Design, organized a Park(ing) spot that transformed a city block in the Southport neighborhood of Chicago into a “bicycle refueling station.” Videos of the site can be found here.

Inhabitants Mike Chino, Diane PhamPhilip Proefrock, and Lea Bogden happily spent part of their Fridays pedaling around their cities looking for these impromptu green spaces. Definitely a day of diversity and splendid eclecticism, we were charmed by the various interpretations across the board — while cities like Chicago and San Francisco went wild with the greenery, creating gorgeous green spaces for people to play on, New York City channeled its own frenetic energy and formed fun spots where people could jive to live tunes and create some art. By the end of it all we each found ourselves more than impressed by the spirit of community, and really, we just couldn’t get over the thought of how much cooler cities would be with more green spaces and less cars!
