PHOTOS: Jaguar’s Sporty C-X16 Hybrid Concept at the LA Auto Show

The <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/la-auto-show/">2011 Los Angeles Auto Show</a> is now open to the public, and the Inhabitat team was on the scene for press days this week to check out the show’s hottest green cars and concepts. One car that combines the sex appeal of a muscled sports car with the fuel economy of a hybrid is the drop-dead gorgeous <a href="http://inhabitat.com/jaguar-reveals-its-hybrid-c-x16-retro-coupe-at-the-frankfurt-motor-show/">Jaguar C-X16 Hybrid</a> concept. Make no mistake: This two-seat coupe is a performance car first and a green machine second.

The C-X16 Hybrid made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The car boasts a supercharged 375-horsepower, V-6 engine.

The Jaguar C-X16 is making its North American debut at the LA Auto Show.

Jaguar is trying to make the point that fuel-efficient cars shouldn’t be the sole domain of family cars and commuter vehicles

The C-X16 can accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in 4.4 seconds.

The car features an electric motor that runs off a 1.6 killowatt-hour lithium ion battery, which is charged by harvesting kinetic energy from the engine during braking.

The charge from the supplemental battery feeds into the electric motor, providing a 10-plus-second boost.

And it's the smallest coupe Jaguar has produced since 1954.

For the LA Auto Show, Jaguar changed the paint job from silver to white.

As for fuel economy, the car has been estimated at 41 mpg on highways, but that probably won’t apply if you test its top speed of 186 miles per hour.

The car is the first two-seater produced by Jaguar in about 30 years.

For now, the C-X16 is a concept and nothing more.

Due to its popularity, many have been speculating that production could be just around the corner.
