PHOTOS: The Chevy MiRay Concept Is a Hot New Take on the Chevy Volt

During our coverage of the <a title="Inhabitat: North American International Auto Show" href="http://inhabitat.com/index.php?s=north+american+international+auto+show" target="_blank">2012 North American International Auto Show</a> in Detroit this week, we came upon the sexy Chevy MiRay Concept, a lovely little ride that actually debuted several months ago at the <a title="MotorAuthority: Chevrolet Miray" href="http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1057676_chevrolet-miray-concept-2011-seoul-motor-show" target="_blank">2011 Seoul Auto Show</a> in Korea. The Miray is an <a title="Wikipedia: extended-range EV" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plug-in_hybrid" target="_blank">extended-range EV</a> just like the <a title="Inhabitat: GM to make structural changes to Chevy Volt battery" href="http://inhabitat.com/general-motors-to-make-structural-changes-to-chevy-volt-batteries-to-ease-fire-fears/" target="_blank">Chevy Volt</a>, but as you can see the sheetmetal on the outside is a lot sportier. With lovely curved taillights and a rear end reminiscent of Lamborghini convertibles, this was one green car we couldn't resist bringing you before we signed off in Detroit.

The designers who crafted the exterior and interior of the MiRay stopped by the stand to pose with the car while we were visiting, so we snapped a few photos of them by their creation while we were there.

If it's as similar to the Volt as promised, expect a 40-mile range on electric power alone, or 100 miles total range with the backup generator.

We hope that GM is planning to put the Volt guts in <a title="Inhabitat: plugin hybrid Chevy Cruze" href="http://inhabitat.com/gm-announces-it-will-offer-a-plug-in-hybrid-chevy-cruze/" target="_blank">all sorts</a> of sporty green vehicles, which would hopefully pack a bigger punch as battery technology improves.
