A striking example of shipping container architecture, Platoon Kunsthalle serves as an exciting and inspiring new exhibit hall and art center in Seoul, Korea. Built from standard shipping containers by Graft Lab Architects, the Kunsthalle, provides a gorgeous modern space where new ideas thrive and creativity is let loose. The building opened last April and houses art studio space, exhibit areas, a restaurant and bar, as well as lots of open space to gather.
Platoon Kunsthalle is part of the Platoon Cultural Development Center, which opened its doors in 2000 in Berlin. The organization runs a diverse program of culture and communication projects with participants from all over the world. The new center in Seoul is meant to help support and promote an artistic and creative subculture movement. Programs and projects in the center focus on street art, graphic design, fashion, video art, programming, music, club culture, political activism, and more.
Graft Lab Architects, who have offices in Los Angeles, Beijing and Berlin, have designed and built many creative and out-of-the-box structures. In Platoon Kunsthalle they have constructed a very intriguing building out of shipping container boxes – 28 of them in fact. The 40-foot long recycled containers were stacked on top of each other and arranged to create a dynamic and exciting space. With almost 3,000 sq ft of space any number of activities can occur within, all of which help promote a growing artistic movement in the heart of Seoul.

That is really interesting that they would use old shipping containers to create places like this. I kind of think it would be a good idea to make a home or something like that out of them because they are strong and should be able to last awhile if there is the need. I really hope that people are finding ways to use these and not just letting them rot away. http://www.storageonwheelslv.com
