Gallery: PREFAB FRIDAY: Australian Modscape

Australian prefab manufacturer, Modscape, creates contemporary, functional homes out of modular designs that can be arranged in countless configurations, balancing beautiful architecture with sustainable elements. Their mission is to design, construct and install a complete home that is comfortable, economical, and efficient. The homes are fabricated off-site in a warehouse in Brooklyn, Australia, transported to the desired location, and installed in less than 12 weeks.

Modscape is reminiscent of Blu Homes, a prefab designer we’ve written about recently. Both designers promise a complete package deal: from design, site work, transportation and installation all for one price. Transparency is a common theme here, and both companies promise that by the time you have designed your home, you’ll know how much it is going to cost you. And along with the beautiful new home, you’ll also be sure to have an energy-efficient and healthy home. One team is responsible for the design, prefabrication and installation of the home, which means they will know the house inside and out, taking full responsibility for it.

As for green design elements, the homes include high energy efficient appliances, equipment and lighting as well and the ability to integrate on-site power generation such as solar panels and solar hot water heating. The interior is finished with low-VOC paints and finishes, recycled materials, plantation timbers, and screw piles. As for water efficiency, the homes use water-efficient fixtures and fittings, rainwater collection and greywater recycling for toilets and irrigation. The homes also incorporate ongoing management systems to ensure energy and water-efficient performance.

Modscape homes seem reasonably priced with great amenities and customer service guiding the homeowner through the entire process. Prices are $200,000+ for two bedrooms. The company offers several designs to choose from and the ability to custom-build your dream home. The modules appear to have a similar size and shape as shipping containers, making them functional homes — however modscape has certainly stylized these minimalist structures to make them more inviting places to live.
