Prefabricated BF House Floats Above the Landscape of Castellón Province in Spain

The hilltop BF House is designed to have minimal impact on the surrounding landscape; by opting for a <a href="http://inhabitat.com/sustainable-living-innovations-debuts-innovative-prefab-building-system/">prefabricated building system</a>, architects at <a href="http://www.ferrater.com/">Office of Architecture in Barcelona (OAB)</a> managed to avoid cutting down existing trees and left the terraced configuration of the property undisturbed. The whole structure rests on three metal, V-shaped pillars and appears to be suspended in the air, providing magnificent views of the Castellón Province in Spain.

The house is organized around a courtyard.

The hot water supply for domestic use as well as under-floor heating is ensured through use of solar panels, combined with heat pipe technology.

The landscape penetrates the building and introduces native vegetation to the courtyard, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.

With part of the house buried into the slope and supported by an existing stone terrace, the rest is left hovering over the steep terrain.

The rooms are oriented to receive adequate sunlight during winter .

The interior is protected from glare and excess heat by specially designed corrugated sheet metal.

The kitchen, living room and master bedroom are housed in the front part of the building.

The disposition of the house, along with its rectangular layout, allows air currents to cross the patio and reach all its rooms.

By optimizing natural ventilation the building design permits reductions in air conditioning consumption.

The garage is located under the access area.
