Probiomed is a High-Tech & Eco Friendly Medical Research Center in Mexico

    <a href="http://www.probiomed.com.mx/" target="_blank">Probiomed</a> is developing new high tech campus southwest of Mexico City dedicated to the production of vaccines and pharmaceutical components for medicine to provide a more consistent supply for the country. <a href="http://www.gdu.com.mx/" target="_blank">Grupo de Diseno Urbano</a> designed the master plan, architecture and landscape architecture in association with Antonio Pla for the new biomedical campus. Included in the design is a plant, laboratories, offices and a corporate dining hall. Sustainable strategies like daylighting, natural ventilation and rainwater collection make this high-tech biomedical facility top-notch.

    Located in the small town of Tenancingo in the State of Mexico (150 km. southwest of Mexico City), <a href="http://www.probiomed.com.mx/" target="_blank">Probiomed</a> is a medical research and production facility that produces biomedical products, like vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

    The company works to source their raw materials from within Mexico and produce enough product to meet the demand of their own country before exporting the surplus.

    <a href="http://www.gdu.com.mx/" target="_blank">Grupo de Diseno Urbano</a>, a Mexico City-based firm, was in charge of the design for the entire facility.

    This included the masterplan, architecture of the buildings and the landscape architecture.

    The first component completed in the campus was the actual plant to produce the biomedical products.

    Located on top of a slope in an old avocado orchard, the dining hall is situated to capture natural daylight with the roof sloped up to the north to take in the view of the mountains and protect from the southern sun.

    This sloping roof allows for the collection of rainwater, which is then sent to an adjacent cistern.

    This aquatic landscape creates a cool microclimate for employees to enjoy and relax in.

    Additionally, cross ventilation strategies and operable windows allow for natural, low energy cooling.
