Gallery: Qihoo 360’s Office Has Floating Cloud-Like Meeting Rooms and S...

While designing Qihoo 360 Technology’s new headquarters, David Ho of edg Corporation was inspired by the company’s role as a leader in cloud computing in China. This lead Ho to create a sprawling workspace complete with “cloud” rooms on varying levels. Made from sustainable bamboo and strawboard, the caged orbs provide employees with innovative areas to work together or alone.

Qihoo 360 Technology’s new headquarters consists of three circular pods arranged around a central multi-level atrium that provides a connection between each of the floors. The circular pods can be used as meeting rooms or spaces for private brainstorming, and they are accessible by ladder or ramp on the first and second floors. A metal slide shoots out into the atrium from the second floor, giving quick (and fun) access to the pods and meeting areas on the ground floor.

The interior’s material palette features environmentally friendly bamboo and strawboard, which is an agricultural bi-product. Strawboard is a chemical-free material that is made by compacting wheat straw with a hot press. Strawboard can be used as an alternative to wood, which helps fight against deforestation.

The office also features a climbing wall and an inflatable castle for employees to recharge their creative juices. David Ho’s design combines healthy, flexible work spaces with sustainable materials and building strategies.
