Help Redesign BP’s ‘Green’ Logo and Win $200!

by , 06/01/10

BP, logo, Logo My Way, BP logo, BP logo redesign contest, contest, gulf, of mexico, oil spill, oil slick, solutions, gulf of mexico, deepwater horizon, british petroleum, gulf coast, design contest, design competition

We’re getting kind of sick of saying this, but BP’s latest latest attempt to stop oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico has failed — yet again. The oil spill is quickly becoming the largest environmental disaster in US history and BP’s unsuccessful efforts to find any sort of solution are infuriating. Considering these circumstances, most people think BP’s bright green flower logo doesn’t really reflect the reality of the situation — which is why LogoMyWay.com has kicked off a $200 BP Logo Redesign Contest that challenges designers to come up with a “slick” new logo that reflects the company’s current slimy situation.

Its good that graphic designers can have some kind of an outlet for the fury we all feel towards BP, but let’s not forget that sites like LogoMyWay, 99designs et al are absolutely horrible for our profession’s perennity and should not be encouraged, in any way shape or form. Please refer to GDC’s, AIGA’s or ICOGRADA’s or any professionnal graphic design association’s code of ethics for further information about this blight.

LogoMyWay’s “contest” is but a ploy to attract atention and I feel it should not be further marketed by sustainable design sites like Inhabitat. I would much rather see you guys or Treehugger organize such an online event…
