Architect Michel Rojkind and Industrial Designer Hector Esrawe teamed up to create the Tori Tori Japanese restaurant in Mexico City, which features a funky perforated facade and a beautiful green wall inside. The clients asked the designers to create a modern take on Japanese tradition by developing an interior with a contemporary and cosmopolitan twist. The building's complex self-supporting façade mimics the natural ivy that runs along the property's retaining walls - read on for a look inside!

Héctor Esrawe, of ESRAWE Studio says: ‘We seek in the project a chance for the users to link with the different ambiances and choose their favorites. Each space’s materials, setup and characteristics towards the furniture generate a wide spectrum of options and sensations for its assiduous clients.’

According to Michel Rojkind, ‘At rojkind arquitectos we are very rigorous about experimenting with digital design as well as getting things built. That’s why we have specially focused on how to translate complex geometries into very simple and understandable drawings that benefit from local manufacturing, as is the case of working in Mexico City."

The furniture was made specifically for the Tori Tori restaurant, and it was developed and oriented for each individually designed space. Michel Rojkind and Industrial Designer Hector Esrawe drew upon traditional Japanese design by carefully considered the ordering of the space and the relationship between objects within the space.
