• Geometric Sandcastles
If you thought sculpting turrets and drawbridges was challenging, you will be amazed by Calvin Seibert's perfect geometric sandcastles. Appearing more like the work of M.C Escher than a medieval king, the sharp angles and swirling ramps look almost too exact to be made from crushed shell and water. Abstract and architectural, his ephemeral works show a mastery over a very difficult medium.

• Geometric Sandcastles
Influenced by Gottfried Bohm and and Aldo Rossi, Calvin Seibert transforms particles of sand into strikingly precise geometric shapes.
2
• Geometric Sandcastles
Each sandcastle emerges from the rough surrounding terrain as a smooth, three-dimensional structure.

Although they look amazingly solid, each is a wave away from total dissolution.

Taking about a day to build each piece, Seibert uses whatever free time he can manage to add to his collection of photographs.

"I always have these ideas that I want to try but somehow in the attempt to get something done by the end of the day I turn towards my old standby solutions. I need to spend 6 weeks on the beach all at once. As it is I only get a day here and there and go whole years without building anything. If I could manage that I might get somewhere new." he says.

There are no straight lines or perfect spheres in nature, but Calvin Seibert comes amazingly close.
7
• Geometric Sandcastles
Stacked on top of each other, these bricks look far more durable than fine, sugary sand.

• Geometric Sandcastles
Like a futuristic city, Seibert's sculpture emerges from the surrounding sand.

• Geometric Sandcastles
Calvin Seibert's sandcastles are an exercise in abstract sculpture with one of the most difficult mediums available.

Calvin Seibert displays incredible precision and patience in his series of geometric sandcastles.
