Droog Gives Liquidated Products New Life at Milan Design Week

XX Chair by Luc d 'Hanis + Sofie Lachaert <p> Dutch design collective <a href="http://www.droog.com/">Droog</a> broke some bad news at this year's <a href="http://inhabitat.com/milan-furniture-fair/">Milan Furniture Fair</a>: around <b>500</b> dutch companies go bankrupt every month. The good news is Droog has saved <b>5139</b> of their products from liquidation sales to be used as raw material for new products. The exhibition showcased creative re-interpretations of found products by 14 designers from different parts of the world.

<a href="http://www.ericklarenbeek.com">Eric Klarenbeek</a> transformed sets of salt shakers into scent rollers for dispensing perfume.

Marian Bantjes gave 80 folding chairs new life with her exquisite detailing.

Stefan Sagmeister printed 448 black leather wallets with gold words that unfold to say “Money does not make me happy”.

Tejo Remy who combined various pieces of glassware to create huge centerpieces.

Roelof Mulder repurposed old glasses with fresh new graphic designs.

Ed Annink created a fairytale narrative for a set of silverware where Onno, the spoon sometimes becomes a candle holder, Ed, the knife transforms into a little mirror for the eyes, Ms. Teaspoon, the little spoon becomes an icon for tools, and the King of Gold is a fork with golden teeth.

Marian Bantjes inscribed an old table to say: "Get up from this table and go make a contribution to Doctors Without Borders. Donate enough that it hurts a little. Then come back to this table and enjoy your meal. Really, really enjoy your meal."

Items that were not selected by designers to be repurposed were given a special blue treatment.
