We've been eagerly following the incredible green buildings being constructed for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and we can't wait for the opening of the festival this Saturday! From supermassive solar sun valleys to the UK's stunning seed cathedral to rainwater-harvesting roofs of all shapes and sizes, we couldn't be more pleased by the green building elements on display -- read on for our six favorite pavilions from the 2010 World Expo!

Rainwater harvesting, recycled materials, green roofs, renewable energy and energy efficiency are common elements in a number of the pavilions at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. Additionally, all of the pavilions are focused around the theme of “Better City, Better Life” and seek to make the world a better place. During the 5 months of the Expo, many public events, concerts, exhibitions, festivals and other cultural activities will take place. More than 190 countries and more than 50 international organizations are participating in the Expo in one way or another, and 100 million visitors are expected to visit, which officials expect to be the largest in history. We sure wish we could be there.
