The Kofunaki House (wooden boat house) is a beautiful family home in Japan that is flooded by natural light. Conceived by
ALTS Design Office, the home was designed so that the inhabitants could feel the changing of seasons and live in contact with the outdoors. Locatec in Shiga, the 1,400 square-foot home features white, minimal open interiors with small trees and shrubs
growing inside!
ALTS Design Office‘s naturally lit Kofunaki House has two levels. The furniture, stairs and some of the home’s floors are entirely made from light wood. On the ground level, some parts of the concrete floor are cut away to provide space for small trees and shrubs to bloom from the gravel covered earth.
The wide-open spaces let air and natural light flow freely through different areas, while translucent curtains make the space flexible. During the night, not much light is needed – just a few small accent lamps that focus on the plants. A minimalist home for a simple, happy lifestyle, the Kofunaki House welcomes nature and sunlight indoors.
