In recent disasters such as the Haiti earthquake and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, renewable energy has been used to help those in need by powering shelters and emergency equipment. Now those who have lost everything in the Pakistan floods are to be aided by portable solar energy units that could ease the suffering of the millions affected.

The solar-powered flood relief project was announced at the opening Plenary Session of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), where former President William Jefferson Clinton recognized the commitment of ACS Energy Advisors, in partnership with WorldWater & Solar Technologies, Inc. (WWST), to bring clean water and reliable power to survivors of the 2010 Pakistan floods.
Speaking at the summit, President Clinton emphasized how the technology and project proposed by ACS Energy Advisors and WWST “embodies the goals of CGI; devising and implementing innovative, technological, and green solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.” The project will deploy portable electricity generators that can purify water using solar energy and run essential disaster relief equipment such as lights, power tools, and communications gear. Currently 3.5 million children are at risk from water-borne diseases in the aftermath of the floods, and it is hoped that these units will be able to provide clean water to those who most desperately need it.

Settings up a small energy generation unit using Solar Panels in Pakistan seems like a good idea. The technology is available, all the bits and pieces are available, what we are lacking is people with technical knowledge and background who can put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
Any one can read a few articles on the internet about how solar panels work and how to setup a system, but I think you really need an engineer to help you setup a system, because he would know how to calculate your exact requirements and to implement a system which fulfills all your future needs as well.
Because the cost of the panels is the major issue here so calculating how much energy you need is of utmost importance.
Large scale solar farms can be setup in Pakistan and can be cost effective as well but we need skilled people to run these facilities.
