The concept was designed by Kukil Han, Daehyun Kim, Bojoong Kim, and Jihwan Yun as a new way to experience the city. We’ve all seen those double decker monstrosities touring our favorite cities on the planet with a gaggle of tourists sitting atop them with their cameras out, snapping photos. This entirely solar and human-powered mode of city-touring would offer a nice respite from that burry photographed mess.
The Bike Guide Concept bus invites tourists to check in at kiosks around town, which tell them how long before an open seat will come their way. Before the bus drops you off, the built-in LED screens regale you with stories and information about your next location. When the tour comes to a full and complete stop, the mechanisms that lock your bike-seat in place release, allowing all passengers to ride around the location freely. While you are riding, another small LED screen built into the handle bars gives you tid-bits of information along the way. Someone please make this transportation concept a reality – it would make touring a city or countryside much more enjoyable and green!

An interesting idea, but how on earth does it turn? You’d have to somehow lock the front wheel of each bike from turning side to side and articulate all of the mountings so that they would adjust to just the right angle when going through a turn. This would require either very complex mechanical linkages and a lot of muscle power on the part of the driver or a lot of little electric motors, which would burn power that this machine will not have to spare. Otherwise, you’re going to have the wheels scraping sideways across the ground. Assuming, that is, that the bus is even able to turn since there is barely any weight on the front tires.
