If there's two things that we love here at Inhabitat, it's LEGO bricksand Stars Wars. Both of them have inspired a number of cool designs over the years, but this is among the best. To celebrate the 3D premiere of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, Serviceplan and LEGO professional Rene Hoffmeister have created a spectacular barrel organ made from over 20,000 LEGO bricks. What is even more amazing is that when it is activated, it plays the Star Wars theme song!
The massive barrel organ features four unique scenes from the Star Wars saga, set on four different planets – the ice planet Hoth, the desert planet of Tatooine, the forest moon of Endor and the Death Star.
As it spins, the LEGO bricks push mechanical sensors connected to a built-in keyboard. It is quite a canny marketing device, as it promotes both the movie and the merchandise at the same time. The barrel organ also features a QR code, which takes users to a website where LEGO sets can be ordered. Unfortunately, if you want to see it for yourself, you’ll have to go to Germany as it is being permanently installed at LEGOLAND Germany later this year.
Watch the video below to see how it works (and sounds)!
