Stelmat Headquarters Makes A Bold Statement With Its Green Roof And Indoor Living Wall

When <a href="http://www.stelmat.com.br/" target="_blank">Stelmat Teleinformática</a> was designing its new headquarters for Cuiabá, Brazil, it wanted to accomplish two things - sustainable use of technology and making a bold statement in terms of architecture. By interweaving the two goals, Stelmat's Headquarters, designed by Brazilian firm <a href="http://www.aboutblankarchitecture.com/portal/" target="_blank">ABOUT:BLANK</a>, hits the mark with a dramatic four story building. Sustainable features are at the core of the building's design with<a href="http://inhabitat.com/category/green-roof"> green roofs</a> topping the stacked levels and a welcoming indoor living wall at the entrance.

Recently completed in 2010, the six-story Stelmat Headquarters is like a stack of cards with each layer placed to create new rooftop and balcony spaces.

Walking up to the building, one is greeted by a beautiful tree contained in an enclosed courtyard.

Upon entering, visitors and employees are welcomed with a lush, indoor living wall that graces one side of the room.

Four more levels top that with open floor plan work areas with a large auditorium and multiple balconies.

Daylighting streams in from both sides into the bright white interior accented with orange and turquoise.

telmat's goal for the building was to serve as an architectural landmark and disseminate the Stelmat brand to the public.

As part of their design goals, sustainable technology was used to reduce costs, which includes the use of green roofs, a brise-soleil, photovoltaic panels and rainwater reuse.

Other strategies were also incorporated to minimize energy use and maximize resource efficiency.
