Gallery: Studio DRIFT’s Interactive Shylights Mimic How Flowers Attract...

Studio DRIFT’s interactive Shylights gracefully move up and down, opening and closing, similar to the way flowers attract and repel pollinating bees. Made from stainless steel, recyclable aluminum, sheer silk, and hi-bright LED lights, these gorgeous “living lights” react to sunshine and music to create a beautiful spectacle inspired by nature.

Shylights are controlled by a sensor device and motor placed within an aluminum and steel cocoon. The lamps unfold their blossoms through a system of springs that expel a shade out of a cocoon, while deliberately showcasing the simple mechanism at work. Tech-lovers will also swoon over the fact that the lamps’ brightness and movement speed can be controlled and programmed via an iPhone or iPad!
