We’ve seen shipping containers used for prefab housing before, and now here’s another function to add to the list for the reclaimed industrial wonder units: deployable digital datacenters. SUN Microsystems, a tech company committed to a forward-thinking corporate eco responsibility program, has launched Project Blackbox, a virtualized, mobile, easily-deployable datacenter that delivers a slew of resources- energy, space, and performance efficiencies- to locations as diverse as deserts, disaster zones, even Mars.

That is sooo clever!
Sorry, but this is an old project – this isn’t news, the way you’re telling it. This was all over the place last summer – it’s not exclusive to Inhabitat. Just google “project black box.” It’s a cool freakin’ thing, and I love it, and I’m glad it’s here, so thanks – but don’t pretend it’s news.
IS THIS PART OF PREFAB FRIDAYS?
Very cool.
Dude, Park Service, I didn’t read anywhere in the article that this was breaking news, or that it was exclusive to inhabitat? What’s up with the negativity. If you like the project just be positive and give Inhabibtat a break.
Geez?
It’s not news – just an item of interest. I hadn’t heard about the Sun container and found the article quite interesting. Thanks – enjoy the aggregator. It’s now part of my news troll/routine. Suggestion: how about doing a survey of editors/readers for similarly useful sites/news/information services?
interesting article. i wonder if they reuse old containers or make brand new ones?
