Gallery: Swarms of Solar Microbots May Revolutionize Data Gathering

Researchers are developing ways to mass-produce tiny robots the size of a fly that operate like swarms of insects to collect data to aid in surveillance, micromanufacturing, medicine, and more. Measuring in at under 4 mm square, the microbots have all the equipment necessary to move, communicate, and collect data, plus they generate all of their own power via solar panels.

    Oh I read that Crichton book as well and as soon as I saw this thing..the passage of swarming “bugs” flashed through my head. Wow is fiction mire fact than ever.

    Yes I think it is compelling technology and in the right hands I am sure it will work wonders. I just hope not so good intentions don’t get a hold of it.

    if this doesn’t scare the hell out of you, nothing will. Be very afraid. Only the naive and overly trusting will find this a good use of technology. You can run but they will find you, always…..
