Marie-Louise Gustafsson specializes in creating interior designs that fuse utility and humor. Recently shown at the Salone Satellite furniture fair in Milan, the Stockholm-based designer’s unusual creation, Table of Trash quirkily references the relationship between the workstation and the waste-basket by introducing an element of fun into an activity that one would normally consider completely mundane. The slide-like table top allows one to literally push those useless papers to the side and straight into the bin – forgoing the loathsome task of crumpling and searching under your desk for that bin.
Made from recycled paper with a corrugated cardboard base, the whole structure is solidly held together with what Gustafsson refers to as a ‘craft-liner’ which enables the table to bend into a customized waste-basket. The structure is fairly light at only 4 kg, making it easily transportable. Gustafsson graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Product Design. Her previous clients have included The Swedish Handicap Institute and the Beckman School of Design.

That’s great… Admittedly it’d get on your nerves when your pencil got just to close to the slope and rolled into the bin, but I love simply designed objects, especially those that inject a little humour into life…
So…you’ve made getting trash to get to the basket easier, but harder to get out.
I love it when housekeeping overturns my desk with everything on it to try to empty my trash.
Two words: “recycling basket” (not trash!)

nice concept but an idea that has not been followed through with good design,we all know how much crap is on our desks,do you remove everything when you simply want to empty the bin?
Would probably be more efficient to have just stuck the wastebasket to the table. Does this mean you still have to lift up the table to clear out the wastebasket?
Funny concept, not sure of the practicality as well.

In my eyes the curved leg of the desk appears to be flowing up-out of the basket like a rainbow to form a desk surface…referencing its root material. For that I love it.
