The Best Green Designs from ICFF 2013 Day One

  • Moooi LED Chandelier
    <a href="http://inhabitat.com/icff/">ICFF 2013</a> just kicked off in New York, and Team Inhabitat is on the scene to bring you the best sustainable designs from the nation's largest showcase of contemporary furnishings. Our first day of coverage turned up a great array of green design gems ranging from dazzling energy-saving <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/led/">LED lamps</a> and chandeliers to furniture made from <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/recycled-plastic/">recycled plastic</a>, repurposed propane tanks, and even salvaged bicycles. Read on for a first-hand look at our favorite finds fresh from today's show!

  • Colin Selig Recycled Propane Tank Chairs
    San Francisco Bay Area-based designer <a href="http://colinselig.com/home.html">Colin Selig</a> repurposes old propane tanks to create an amazing array of sofas and chairs. The smooth, sculptural seats require no extra material, and Selig has plans to license the design so that local craftspeople can manufacture them around the world.

  • Designtree Frankie Lamp
    New Zealand-based <a href="http://www.designtree.co.nz/">Designtree</a> showcased their series of <a href="http://www.designtree.co.nz/">Frankie Lamps</a>, which feature recycled felt shades set upon FSC-certified wood frames. The Frankie line includes a table, standing, and pendant lamp, and each one is accented by a red cord that adds a bright pop of color.

  • Graypants Giant Recycled Cardboard Lamp
    That's <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVekNsgUqn4">no moon</a>… it's <a href="http://www.graypants.com/">Graypants</a>' largest recycled cardboard lamp to date! The designers told us that even this epic 64" sphere will soon be eclipsed by an even larger cardboard lamp - stay tuned!

  • Moooi LED Chandelier
    <a href="http://www.moooi.com/">Moooi</a> unveiled a collection of stunning <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/led/">LED</a> chandeliers that look like fireworks or constellations in bloom. Each energy-efficient lamp's metal structure carries a low-voltage current that is safe to the touch and eliminates the need to connect the bulbs with wires.

  • Nadia Belalia Recycled Colander Lamp
    Inhabitat favorite <a href="http://www.nadiabelalia.com/">Nadia Belalia</a> showcased a new set of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nadia-belalia-transforms-simple-colanders-into-stunning-lamps/">recycled colander lamps</a> painted with brilliant hues.

  • The Recycler Tub Chair Made From Recycled Bike Parts
    <a href="http://therecycler.ca/">The Recycler</a> created this bright red chair entirely from repurposed bicycle parts. Four handlebars make up its legs, while the seat is composed of sections of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/bicycle/">bicycle</a> wheels.

  • Patrick Weder Design Paper Beehive Lamp
    <a href="http://www.patrickweder.com/">Patrick Weder Design</a>'s beehive-like lamp makes beautiful use of minimal materials. It's composed of tiny strips of paper layered over a simple wire frame structure.

  • Molo Softlight LED Tripod Lamp
    <a href="http://molodesign.com/">Molo</a> showcased its elegant new Softlight LED tripod lamp, which consists of a cloud-like Tyvek shade set atop three spindly legs.

  • Hurbz Kiga Kitchen Garden
    <a href="http://hurbz.com/">Hurb</a>'s clever <a href="http://hurbz.com/">Kiga Kitchen Garden</a> is a modular planter that can be used to grow fresh herbs for cooking. The modules can be arranged in a variety of configurations, they stack one within another to ship, and the foot of each planter provides drainage.

  • Hinterland Driftwood Chandelier
    <a href="http://hinterlanddesign.com/">Hinterland</a> unveiled a gorgeous low-energy chandelier made from pieces of driftwood salvaged from the coasts of British Columbia.

  • Dirk Vander Koolj Recycled Plastic Chubby Chair
    <a href="http://www.dirkvanderkooij.nl/">Dirk Vander Koolj</a> unveiled his brand new <a href="http://www.dirkvanderkooij.nl/product/chubby-chair">Chubby Chair</a>, which is made of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/recycled-plastic/">recycled plastic</a> extruded and shaped by a custom-built robot.

  • Dutchtub Wood Fired Hot Tub
    The <a href="http://www.weltevree.nl/ENG/collectie/dutchtub-original">Dutchtub</a> is an off-grid hot tub that is heated by a burning wood fire. It'd be perfect for a taking a soak in the woods while camping!

  • Blackbody OLED Tree Light
    <a href="http://www.blackbody-oled.com/">Blackbody</a> showcased its gorgeous OLED tree, which consists of a single white trunk that splits off into branches that glow with low-energy light.
