The parking area has long served as a departure point for hiking trips and as a rest stop for motorists along the Aurlandsfjellet Route. In 2010, the parking area was updated with service facilities, picnic tables and a more spacious parking surface. The bathroom was designed for low maintenance and high durability to be able to withstand the harsh conditions and huge snow loads during the winter.

The cube is shaped and tilted to gain the most from the sun and provide shelter from the wind. The exterior is a durable concrete shell with an inner wooden core as well as two toilets and a technical area. Solar panels on the south angled facade generate energy from the sun’s rays to power the facility. The bathroom facilities also blend in with the environment and the low profile ensures that views of the landscape are not obscured.
