Situated at 1,200 meters in the midst of a dramatic and harsh landscape, the toilets are covered by snow for 8 months a year. When summer comes though, tourists frequent the road and the rest stop is a popular starting point for hikes in the area. Designed by Lars Berge of LJB, Flotane is oriented to maximize its sun exposure and is completely powered by solar panels.

The bathroom facilities also blend in with the environment and the low profile ensures that views of the landscape are not obscured.
