The timber was also structured to maximize natural ventilation and natural lighting.
The buildings are oriented in order to ensure the right amount of solar gain during all seasons, keeping them warm during winter but sufficiently cool during the summer. Upstairs, the white walls act as an additional reflective shield. Site location was chosen very carefully to minimize displacement of flora, and also to ensure a certain amount of continuity between nature and the villas.
Stone gives the buildings their shape, while timber gives them their ambience. The wood has been sculpted to facilitate plenty of air flow and light, maximizing energy efficiency and the cozy factor. The louvers also slide and shift, further controlling how much light and warmth penetrate the inside.
