Gallery: Tom Dixon Invites Visitors to Design Their Own Flat Pack Lamps...

Bringing visitors into the whole industrial process, Dixon teamed up with Digital Forming Studio to create the Co-Design Bar which inspired on-the spot customized designs for exhibition visitors.

At this year’s Milan Design Week Tom Dixon joined forces with Digital Forming Studio to create a “Co-Design Bar” where visitors could customize and digitally print their own lamps! The exhibit emphasized the manufacturing process as much as the end product and invited visitors to use 3D computer programming applications to create one-off lighting designs. The designs will be transformed into flat-pack lamps, and within just a couple of weeks they’ll be shipped off to their new homes.

The interactive exhibit encouraged visitors to customize a range of Dixon lamp or speaker designs. As visitors used the 3D software to produce their customized designs, they were treated to an illuminating view of the industrial design process. Once a design is completed it will be produced and then delivered, extending the buzz of the exhibition by an extra two weeks.

The Co-Design Bar stole the show at the MOST design festival – by bringing an interactive element to the exhibition, the stand sparked an imaginative flare in passing visitors.
