Gallery: Tom Dixon’s Sensational Flat-Pack Stamp Lamp Comes Hot Off the...

A highlight of this year's Milan Design Week, Tom Dixon's amazing "Luminosity" exhibition stole the show with a slew of new and innovative lamp designs. One stand-out lighting fixture that really caught our eye was this stunning 'Stamp Lamp'. The lamp is a flat-pack design that employs a simple stamping and pressing process designed for "instant consumption" straight off the production line.

The Stamp Lamp starts off as a zinc-coated, steel sheet that is punched and pressed by two sheet-steel machines from industrial manufacturing giant, Trumpf. The sheet is then folded into a finished pendant by its owner, allowing them to become a part of the design process. Tom Dixon has also released a similar prototype for a chair — the Stamp Chair — and they are formed from heavy duty zinc-coated steel and held together with 86 rivets, giving it a distinctive industrial attitude.

Tomorrow, April 21, Dixon is kicking off a huge giveaway of 400 Stamp Lamps and 5 exclusive prototype Stamp Chairs at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. A Stamp design kit and miniature chair will also be given away during the next week. And for those of us not in the Italian city, never fear because Dixon’s also giving away Stamp Lamps to five UK residents — lucky Brits.
