Gallery: Turntable and Other Cool Gadgets Recycled From Old Motorcycle ...

With all the hot new electric motorbikes out now, many old school gas guzzlers are being retired – and remade into some sexy new home products! That’s right, Triumph Motorcycles and students from the Birmigham Institute of Art and Design have created a smart collection of homeware out of recycled motorcycle parts that looks just as good, if not better, than the original bikes did. The result is a line of stylish, unique and very cool household items ranging from bowls to hatstands and even a turntable.

Items from motorcycles used in the pieces included the handbrake, headlights, instrument panel and clutch levers. If you’re a bit of a petrolhead, we can’t think of a better way to decorate your home.

I totally agree with you and I “designed” the turntable!…in my defence the actual final conceptual piece was a quick re-hash due to limited time, and nothing like my orignal designs. if your a designer matt maybe you’d understand that within a 5 week project there are limitations to what you can produce. the ariston turntable was a 2nd hand throw away, which wasn’t working and was in a terrible state with a crappy tone arm…i at least had the heart to refurb it, get it working and give it a linn tone arm. as for the extra pieces ‘haphazardly’ thrown onto it…well i have to disagree, though they dont add anything to performance it was more of a visual statement…trust me it does look good with a 7 inch spinning!

The cutlery are the most successful to me as a motorcyclist and a designer. The turntable “design” is so lacking it hurts. That is an Ariston RD-80 turntable with a Linn arm and its being absolutely denigrated by random thoughtless motorcycle parts thrown on it haphazardly. They serve no purpose. I follow DIY turntable assembly and designs online and have seen them “in the wild,” people who actually build tables and arms themselves deserve the coverage, not student/industry collabs that put out stuff like this.
