According to Volkswagen, the new E-Bugster concept sports an 114-horsepower (85 kW) electric motor and 695-pound lithium-ion battery, which when combined boasts a 100-mile driving range.

We asked Volkswagon representatives about the quirky moniker (our suggestion; drop the “E”) – apparently the design is meant to be an electric roadster version of the iconic VW Beetle (or what Americans nicknamed the “VW Bug”). Bug + Roadster + Electric = E-Buster, apparently! Funny name aside, the E-Bugster is decidedly cute and definitely an appealing concept for a sporty, fun electric vehicle.

According to Volkswagen, the new E-Bugster concept sports an 114-horsepower (85 kW) electric motor and 695-pound lithium-ion battery, which when combined boasts a 100-mile driving range. The car will also be able to charge in a number of different ways, one of which is a Level 3 quick charger that can juice the battery up to 80 percent in about half an hour.

The E-Bugster also has some sweet aesthetic perks that might convince those who aren’t swayed by its electric motor. In addition to Volkswagen’s signature LED headlights, the E-Bug (if it ever makes it to the market) will have 20 inch rims and an integrated tablet PC.

I have always loved VW Beetles, so I absolutely love this EV! I really hope the E-Bugster (love the name, too!) becomes a reality.
