Wearable Collections, a non-profit charity initiative, is leading the crusade to reduce textile waste in a city traditionally known for disposable, seasonal styles. The organization is placing recycling bins in designated buildings throughout New York City for the collection of unwanted garments and clothing. With Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week having just come and gone here in NYC, we wanted to take a closer look at how one non-profit is aiding New Yorkers to have a cleaner, greener closet while helping others along the way.

    Dear Readers:

It was recently pointed out to me that ‘Wearable Collections’ is not an official non-profit – rather, they refer to themselves as “an agent for non-for profit organizations” as well as “a fundraising tool.”

My sincere apologies for any confusion this might have caused. We certainly like to check our facts for Inhabitat write-ups, and this is one fact that was not evident to me the first time around. That said, we still think that they have a great initiative underway, and we support their recycling efforts!

    Thanks,

    Abigail @ Inhabitat
