Wikado Playground is Built From Recycled Wind Turbine Blades in The Netherlands

What do you do with retired wind turbine blades? Why, you turn them into a super fun playground of course! <a href="http://2012architecten.nl/2008/10/wikado-2/" target="_blank">Wikado Playground</a> in The Netherlands is a renovation of play area in desperate need of attention. <a href="http://2012architecten.nl/" target="_blank">2012Architecten</a> handled the design and renovation of the area for <a href="http://kinderparadijs.net/" target="_blank">Kinderparadijs Meidoorn</a> and made use of five discarded rotor blades to create a maze-like play area with slides, towers, nets and plenty of interactive elements.

Located in Rotterdam, Wikado is a renovated playground space designed by <a href="http://2012architecten.nl/" target="_blank">2012Architecten</a> for <a href="http://kinderparadijs.net/" target="_blank">Kinderparadijs Meidoorn</a>.

The 1200 sq meter play space was in bad shape and in need of renovation.

2012Architecten was tasked with coming up with a new design and new play elements.

They chose to use 5 discarded rotor blades from wind turbines to use in the playground.

The blades were cut up into parts to serve as tunnels, towers, bridges, hills, ramps and slides.

There is also a watchtower, a water tower, a water slide tower and a climbing tower where you go through a jungle gym.

Part of the turbine is used to create a spaceship-like tower.

The recycled blades were secured into the ground and painted white with brightly colored stripes.

Wikado playground was completed in 2007.

The playground is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for members of the <a href="http://kinderparadijs.net/content/blogcategory/6/21/">Children's Foundation of Meidoorn</a>.
