Want to clean and freshen the air in your home using the power of plants?
We’ve been in love with the ANDREA houseplant filter’s modern design for quite some time now, so we’re thrilled to be giving one of these amazing air-purifiers (worth $195) to one very lucky reader this week! ANDREA isn’t just pretty to look at – it’s 40 times more efficient than HEPA or carbon filters, and more effective than a houseplant alone because it sucks air into the plant filter through a fan, and propels it through the leaves and root system of a plant, and then back out through water and soil filtration into the room environment. On top of all that, it requires no filter changes (meaning there is less trash to worry about).

My kids and I have terrible allergies. This air purifier is beautiful! I would be proud to show it off!
I’m starting my life, so I intend to build a house someday and as it is I want my appartment to be 100% eco and then to show to my children how to be efficient and to live in a way that nature thrives!
I should definitely have this air purifier because its named after me!
I am allergic to EVERYTHING! I have recently moved to a new home where I have had nothing but respiratory problems since moving. We bought one air filter, but it isn’t working. We are hoping and praying to find something that can help me lead a more normal and healthy life, sooner than later! Please help!
We will be having a baby in October and I want to raise our child to understand, respect, see and love the natural world around us.
I know the contest is closed but the reason why I would need it is, my family, my husband is a disabled veteran with a severe skin disease, allergen aggravate it even more so. We have one cat, and one dog, a nine year old son with Aspergers, we live on a very fixed income. I love plants but I can’t always get to gardening. This filter is stunning, and would go wonderful in my home. Anyways Congrats to the winner!
What a beautiful piece of design, very innovative and smart . I love plants so much, since I am originally from Georgia and grew up surrounded by them.I currently live in Arizona because I just finished up school and my apartment consists of beautiful black and shades of grey concrete
. I also have terrible allergies like many of the people that have commented, especially to dust mites. Waking up to breath in clean pure air, and to see a beautiful plant next to my bed would be very refreshing and put a smile on my face. I currently work for a green company, ENSO plastics so I appreciate such innovative design.
I live in the Midwest and our house is all close up …….

It is a wonderfull gift to the enviroment.
The best reason ever – after a long and difficult job-hunt, my cousin found her re-entry dream job only the small company is private and allows smoking in an open office environment. So, the win Andrea is for her and the second one I will buy for me.
The Andrea would be a wonderful addition to my tiny healing home which is currently in the works. After suffering a horrible depression and divorce I found myself needing a place to live. I decided to build a tiny home as part of the tiny house movement. I decided to make it a healing home incorporating healing concepts such as color therapy and natural plant air purification.
Hopefully the Andrea will help prevent another bout of depression in my tiny home.
That’s why I want to win it!
After suffering a painful divorce and horrible depression I found myself needing a new place to live. I decided to build a tiny home {working on it now} like with the tiny house movement.
I cured my depression with holistic means. I used “The Depression Cure” by Dr. Stephen Illardi. It uses 6 steps to cure depression without drugs. I decided to incorporate the 6 steps of the depression cure right into the construction of my tiny house {where I can}. I also decided to make it a “Healing home.”
I will be using plants to purify my breathing air. The Andrea struck me as a wonderful addition to my healing home which will be off grid. Hopefully it helps heal my chronic sinusitis.
That’s why I’d love to win one.
This is a wonderful website and a very creative device.
I am currently a student of interior design at Virginia Marti College of Art and Design in Lakewood Ohio. In my future career as a designer I want to be as Green design and Sustainable material conscious as much as possible and will always encourage my clients to think this way as well. As for me wanting one of those air purifiers: I am an avid gardener raising everything from orchids to common houseplants. I am curious to see what the air filter is capable of in terms of air purification and how easy it is to maintain. What better way to rave to clients about a great product than to have personal experience using it.
Hey I need it… If you don\\\’t give me one I will have to buy it
Mr. Natural says breathing is a good thing and breathing purified air from a nature base platform is naturally better.
Andrea plant air purifier is a sleek looking unit however it does nothing more than pass air through the leaves of a plant. The technology is very primitive and NASA and Dr. Wolverton had gone far beyond this stage in the technology. Recently we completed a $400,000 plant air purification analysis where just 8 plants were grown in a filter bed which acted as a filter for the HVAC system at Link Hall at Syracuse University. It is the root system and the pulling of air through where the roots and microbes congregate that make for increased purification efficienty up to a 100 times what one plant can do. Our study was funded by EPA and New York State Energy and Research. I was the project manager.
I live in the tropics. in this area is very hot and very humid. We do not use air conditioners Hopefully with this tool we can stay in the house during the day in a long time. and gives examples of the use of environmentally friendly technologies in our area.
great great product !!!!!!!!!need so many more of these product!!!!!!!!
I’m in a tiny condo in the city and what plants I do have are continually nibbled on by my two cats! The Andrea would bring health to my household: for the humans, the kitties and the vegetation! (Just thought I’d take a chance and see if the contest might be extended to the end of the week. Wish I’d seen your site sooner!)
I think the Andrea is a brilliant idea!, Our college is very eco-friendly and having one of these might help promote Eco-Friendliness within the college, i did research on these whilst doing my art project and i found these outstanding, The filter the air around you.
There would be nothing better than breathing that sigh of relief that drifts through the Andrea and surpresses the mighty dust warriors and all of their vagrant and toxic brothers who invade my home. There would be nothing better then exhaling with the knowledge that when I take my next breath, it is revival, not just survival!
The ANDREA is an elegant device that utilizes a plant’s natural ability to filter air via the Photosynthesis process. It’s a brilliant concept and has a sleek design. As an Asthmatic with chronic sinusitis (and former transplant candidate) with multiple chemical sensitivities, I would appreciate the ANDREA air filter. It would more than enhance my quality of life, it would improve my health. I’ve tried HEPA filters – they help, but not enough. Luckily, I don’t have pollen allergies. My Asthma and chronic sinusitis is triggered by out-gassing, Phthalates, second & third-hand smoke, perfume and various other environmental toxins. On top of that, soon my apartment will undergo repairs to a damp wall that’s taking 2 years to fix [finally]. I don’t think building management will repair the wall internally and externally with eco-safe products. So, the ANDREA would facilitate my breathing and make me a happier, oxygenated person.
Hi,
I am really excited to see the Andrea in your weekly giveaway contest! I would really like to win this for my sister and her newborn twins, a boy and girl. They were born premature, and the little boy had respiratory problems. Six weeks later he became very sick and stopped breathing on the way to the hospital. He has been at the hospital for the past 10 days. He was diagnosed with Group B Strep, which is life threatening in infants. Honestly, it has been a miracle that he has pulled through as much as he has. He wasn’t able to breathe on his own until yesterday, couldn’t regulate his body temperature, and had swelling all over, including his lymph glands. They did not think he would make it. He is not completely out of the woods yet, but he is doing so much better! I would really love to give the Andrea air purifier to my sister to use in the twins room to help keep the air in their as clean as possible. The powerful filtration capability of the Andrea compared to the HEPA filter would be an extra protective safeguard for her newborn’s fragile health. Thanks so much for doing this!
As a graduate student in environmental and resource economics, living in a very urban part of the SF East Bay, my access to fresh air is far from what I would like it to be. The same goes for my financial resources; graduate student stipends don’t stretch far, especially after counting my Amtrak commuting tickets.
The discrepancies between the better environment that I attempt to contribute to in my everyday life (and hope to further contribute to through my research), and the one that I live in, constitute the reason why I think I should win this beautiful and innovative air filter!
It sure seems less complicated than building my own living wall… although I would still like to do that some day!
The Andrea Air Purifier would be an awsome addition to my home. I live in an urban area, sandwiched in between a body shop (the car kind) and a manufacturing shop. Some days fresh air is in very short supply. The nature/tech synergy of this air purifier makes it unique and interesting. The Andrea is a practical item for all homes and offices but has the added benifit of keeping the plant safe from kittens while it reduces the carcinagins and chemicals around my Steeltown home.
I have two little boys, a border collie, and a pack rat husband. This house is a mess and needs some purifying! I\’ve been looking for an air purifier for years!
I am an urban gardener, and having a beautiful piece like this in my apartment would help out with my lifelong allergies, as well as bring life and beauty to the room!
I neeeeeed one because I like to breathe. Also, bonus, I like looking at things, and this looks super nice! Did I mention I enjoy breathing?
this air purifier looks so adorable
New Yorker previously from the mountain range of Mata Grande in Santiago, Dominican Republic.. I miss how fresh and pure the air is up there compared to my Manhattan apartment which- no matter how much I clean & dust with eco-friendly products the air still feels highly contaminated! This would make spring cleaning far more productive!
I want the one that comes with the cute baby!
I’m in the process of moving about my boat & am constantly looking for more sustainable means & methods. This looks like a great way to maintain a fresher, livelier atmosphere, not to mention my pets won’t be tempted to poke at the leaves as easily.
Would love to have this for the health of my newborn Alexander!
We suffer from allergies all year long and it would be SO nice to at least create a refuge at home using this beautiful air purifier that is the ultimate in efficiency…as well as a decorative plant & container! It is so self-sufficent – and to be able to create an \\\”allergy free\\\” environment in my home would be wonderful beyond words!
I was going to ask for the Andrea system but after reading some of the other peoples problems I decided I would pull my name out of contention as I am sure not to win after reading their litany of despair. I have a request thought and ask you do random drawings perhaps in the future for us healthy folk.
I’m an architect trying to create a green apartment example in urban context (what is rare at this time).
I try to show the possibility and to made an example to learn other architects using green decision, green exterior and interior design. Most of architects do it in rural or sub-urban context because of limit and constraints in urban context. Such as pollution, acoustic and others… However their works is greats but i believe that is not the only way to act forward a sustainable and green future.
This example of green apartment that i ‘m trying to do needs different architectural and technical solutions! I’m collecting the bests with my limited budget and I find this air purifier, one bio-technical great solution which i can add to my project to encourage architects and citizens using such green urban solutions.
I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ve been trying to decide on what kind of plant to get for my apartment, but having one of these things would definitely solve that problem in an instant. Plus, they\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’re really nifty looking and I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’d love to get questions from guests about what it is, followed by an excited me explaining how it works!
I don\\\\\\\’t have serious allergies, animals that make me unable to breath, or a ailing illness. But I do have a moldy basement a boyfriend who plays hockey(which smells horrific), I do live near 2 cites with lots of smog. Other than that I would really like this plant.
I am from the Dominican Republic, and while I love New York City, I miss the clean, fresh air of Santiago, Dominican Republic.
More specifically, I am from Mata Grande mountain range. Everything is so pure, clear, and beautiful up there. Living in Manhattan I find no matter how clean I keep my apartment using organic, non-toxic cleaning supplies, I still feel like the air quality, dust, etc is just terrible!
Would love this ANDREA filter, as from what I’ve read– it does an excellent job in purifying the air! Hope for Manhattanites!
I live by the sea, and the air is very damp and mouldy. Coupled with permanent rhinitis and the most delicate nasal skin, I suffer somewhat. Besides, I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ve just broken up with my fiance, and I need cheering up!
As I am allergic to everything (food, environment, etc), I have tried, literally, EVERYTHING to combat/lessen my varied and not so pleasant allergic reactions to the world and everything the world holds… having researched this item, it seems to hold endless possibilities for enriching MY world.
This is the best looking air purifier on the market. With 2 children that suffer allegies, this would be a real boon to own this product.
I NEED it because I’m in need of an air filter but don’t want to add to my waste by having a filter to change every month. It is as simple as that.
)

All my family has allergy’s, also 2 of us has asthma so I keep telling my family we have a sick house because our house seems like its hard to breath in.
Why I want to win an ANDREA Houseplant Air Purifier:
I have 3 cats.
I’m allergic (not to the cats, to everything else).
The air purifier I have doesn’t do a thing.
IT”S BEAUTIFUL!
A brilliant design that combines ingenuity, simplicity and common sense. The design is unique enough without being “too” modern. Industrial/interior design that works is fun and with a purpose, such as cleaning air, a great combo.
