Gallery: Wood-Like Cardboard Stools Pop Up in a Snap and Can Hold 440 P...

Hen and Hammock‘s beautiful tree trunk stool and scrap wood stool are very cleverly designed pieces of cardboard furniture. The stools are printed with weathered wood patterns, they can stand up to an astonishing 440 pounds (200kg) of weight, and each one only takes three minutes to assemble.

Dutch designers have been very successful at innovating with paper and cardboard. The stools’ smooth stripped wood finish is produced by very high-quality photo printing. It’s only when you touch it you realize it’s not wood. At the forefront of the trend are Joost van Bleiswijk, who designed a cardboard office, and Hen and Hammock producer Jurianne Matter, who designs beautiful paper lanterns.

The products they have created are world class in their own right, but they also score highly on the eco front as cardboard and paper are sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable. According to Earth 911, every ton of recycled cardboard saves 17 trees, 2 cubic yards of landfill capacity and 4100 Kw /hours of electricity!
