Gallery: World’s Biggest Offshore Wind Farm Is Activated Today

It seems the world has truly embraced wind power, and nowhere more so than Europe – specifically the United Kingdom. Today, the UK opens the Thanet Wind Farm, the largest offshore wind farm in the world with 100 turbines spread over 35 kilometres in the North Sea, 7.5miles off the coast of Foreness Point, Margate. The wind farm will be capable, if winds are high enough, of generating up to 300 megawatts of electricity – enough to power over 200,000 homes or a small city.

    Hi all,

so who is building the 300mw backup power station for non windy days? I am not anti wind its just that I have invented a gravity assisted gear box wherein the input from gravity multiplies the output by 8 times so if you drive this gearbox with 1mw of hydraulic motors then you get 8mw out from the 8 x 1mw generators 24/7, I call it the Geo Genny and given time you see there is no need for wind I will keep you up dated on its development.
