The 2011 London Design Festival is off to a sizzling start with the official unveiling of LEGO Greenhouse - the world's very first fully functional hothouse made of LEGO bricks. Award-winning designer Sebastian Bergne was commissioned by LEGO UK to build this magical box. He admits that completing the project was like realizing a childhood fantasy, and we can see why - the entire greenhouse is made from roughly 100,000 LEGO bricks. The walls, the floors, and even the earth are all composed of either translucent or brown pieces, though the tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, and other flora that you see are very much real. Is there any concerns that toxic fumes could be given off by the legos and seep into the plants grown within it? I know some plastics are harmful when heated.
rather more importantly – I can’t see how the plants are going to be watered! (there must be a way surely! just not pictured?!)

The LEGO is safe as it is designed as a Children’s toy.
As the builder of the green house, I built in an access point so the garden team can water the plants daily.
I am going to put in a question with the designer about the plastics. Regarding water, though, there is a nifty little door (you just can’t see it.)
These look like special, large lego bricks- not ones typically available to the consumer. Where they made just for this? It’s really neat!
It is made of standard Lego parts.
Will there be a do-it-yourself kit on sale any time soon & how much would it cost?
