Gallery: Zero-Energy Huginn & Muninn Sauna on Stilts Inspired by Norse ...

Standing firmly on stilts, Huginn & Muninn is a zero-energy outdoor sauna overlooking the impressive Italian landscape near Piacenza. Designed and built by AtelierFORTE, this gorgeous tiny shelter in the wild was inspired by ravens and Norse mythology.

Huginn & Muninn means “Thought” and “Memory” – the names of two ravens belonging to the Nordic god Odin in Norse mythology. The legend describes how the Nordic god sent the two ravens flying over the earth and waited for them to come back and tell him everything they saw and heard. Black as a raven and shaped like a gazing bird, the fir wood sauna has space for two people to enjoy the view.

Following Scandinavian traditions, Huginn & Muninn’s sauna is strictly powered by a wooden stove using locally sourced wood. AtelierFORTE has been making outdoor saunas since 1994, designing unique custom-built creations according each client’s needs. Headed by half Swedish half-Italian Dulio Forte, this multidisciplinary art and design studio mixes Sweden’s love for nature and Italy’s history and culture.
