Foster + Partners Selected to Design Carbon Neutral Park for West Kowloon Cultural District

The district will also feature a 2 kilometer promenade along the waterfront with brilliant views back to the Hong Kong skyline.

The new district will seamlessly merge into the existing city. The new Opera will be located on the edge of the district closer to the city and have more of an urban feel.

The entire district will be raised up 3 meters from its present elevation to accommodate transportation infrastructure below in order to provide more urban green space.

Foster and Partners won the competition to design the masterplan, which is not yet finalized, but proposes a dual purpose arena and convention center, an opera house, modern art museum, concert halls, art education facilities, shopping, office space, hotels and more.

The masterplan for the new West Kowloon Cultural District includes 23 hectares of new urban green spaces and seventeen different venues for culture and the arts.
