Lindal Homes Puts a Green Twist on the Classic A-Frame

<a href="http://lindal.com" target="_blank">Lindal Cedar Homes</a> recently unveiled <a href="http://lindal.com/homes/gallery/Modern_A-frame.cfm" target="_blank">a set of fresh new takes</a> on the traditional A-Frame house that incorporate some great green building features. The homes are based on a series of three predefined shapes that can be combined to create 18 different room types, resulting in hundreds of customized home designs. Staying true to the original theme of the A-Frame, two of their five pre-designed homes come with pitched roofs (an favorite architectural feature that has an unwavering fan base) and the whole line stays true to <a href="http://lindal.com/homes/asksirwalter/environment.cfm" target="_blank">Lindal's commitment to energy efficiency, the environment and quality materials</a>. The 1,200 sq ft. A3 1200 is the first of two pitched roof models in the <a href="http://lindal.com/homes/gallery/Modern_A-frame.cfm" target="_blank">MAF line</a>.

The home is formed out of three blocks - one large block with a pitched roof houses two bedrooms and the living space.

The smaller block, which holds the master suite, is separated from the rest of the home by a small breezeway, which serves as an entry way.

Floor-to-ceiling windows allow daylight to stream into the interior spaces.

The floorplan for the A3 1200 shows how a lot of functionality can packed into a modest footprint.

The A2 1500 is the second of the two pitched-roof models in the <a href="http://lindal.com/homes/gallery/Modern_A-frame.cfm" target="_blank">MAF line</a>. The residence has two bedrooms and runs 1,500 sq ft.

This home is composed of two pitched roof blocks connected together without a breezeway.

The main difference with the A2 1500 is that it features a lofted bedroom above the main living space, which takes advantage of the double height ceiling. What a great way to make the most of an A-frame design.

The two-story A2 1500 features a compact footprint due to the smart design of the lofted second bedroom above the main living area.

All of the homes are constructed from Western Red Cedar, engineered framing, hardiplank or cedar siding and use Lindal's custom windows.
