  • The Doghouse
Designed for the "Premise" dream bar competition, The Doghouse is a secret pop up bar in Darlinghurst in Sydney.
    2
  • The Doghouse
Open through this weekend, visitors to the bar can go in and get a taste of what a 1920's speak-easy bar might have been like.
    3
  • The Doghouse
Decorated with eco materials, vintage decor, and beer bottles the bar is a dream of old-world flair and dark stained wood.
    4
  • The Doghouse
The bar idea was dreamed up by Melbournites Rob Dumaresq and Hugh Gurney with an interior designed by Adele Winteridge of Foolscap.
    5
  • The Doghouse
The dark wood interiors contain fold up and away tables inspired by original speak-easy bars that needed to conceal their true motive.
    6
  • The Doghouse
Environmentally sustainable plywood was used to construct the modular bar space, that will be uninstalled and flat packed at the end of the weekend.
    7
  • The Doghouse
Adele from Foolscap says that the main sustainable materials used in the pop-up bar were three: eco ply/jute rope and hired/recycled vintage furniture and fixtures.
    8
  • The Doghouse
Beer bottles are used as decor along the bar and are hoisted using the jute rope and a pulley system.
    9
  • The Doghouse
The entire experience encourages patrons to engage with the themes of secrecy and concealment.

  • The Doghouse
The Doghouse announced the winner of the design competition on September 13th and then 24 days later opened the doors of the secret pop-up bar.

The location though is no secret, and you can find it this weekend at 287A Liverpool St, Darlinghurst, open Thursday thru Sunday from 6 pm to 12 am.

Adele also said, "As the bar was installed in only five days, the design incorporates set design elements, as well as addressing issues of sustainability and re-usability through a modular design constructed from environmentally sustainable plywood."

  • The Doghouse
After the weekend, the entire bar will be flat packed away and maybe will end up as another pop-up bar in a city near you.
