Once a 19th-century military fortress, the classic structure was recently transformed by Spanish architect <a title="Antonio Obrador" href="http://www.aodenario.com/" target="_blank">Antonio Obrador</a> into a beautiful, luxury hotel. Obrador led the charge to renovate the historic fort, where a carefully thought out design maintains the structure's old-world charm while adding functionality and the potential for profit. Set above the Mallorca’s Bay of Palma, this adults-only hotel is a stunning example of <a href="http://www.inhabitat.com/green-renovation" target="_blank">historic adaptive reuse</a>.

The former 19th Century military fortress was transformed into a boutique hotel with the help of Spanish architect, Antonia Obrador.

The fort was renovated and refurbished to retain much of the original character and historic feel.

The fort-cum-hotel overlooks the Bay of Palma on the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean sea.

Landscaping in and around the fort includes native plants and palms that require little water and are regionally appropriate.

Former shooting pads are transformed into private suites complete with an exclusive terrace and pavilion.

The adults only hotel include 24 luxurious rooms which have been renovated, but are still reminiscent of the former military complex.

Terraces and private patios encourage natural ventilation, where sea breezes help cool the rooms.

Food for the hotel's restaurants is sourced from local and organic farms.

The hotel's pool is a salt water pool, which eliminates the need for harmful chlorine to keep the water clean.

Guests can still enjoy some of the hotel's defensive strategies including a drawbridge, trenches and 2 km of private coastline.

The fort's former kitchen has been transformed into a private dining and wine tasting room.

The two main restaurants take advantage of the views and the beautiful Mediterranean climate.
