Social Housing in BondyThis new environmentally-sensitive <a href="http://inhabitat.com/historic-uk-hostel-turned-into-super-green-residential-housing/" target="_blank">social housing project</a> in Bondy, France provides a beautiful series of apartments for 34 relocated families. <a href="http://www.atelierdupont.fr/" target="_blank">Atelier du Pont</a> (a member of the <a href="http://plan01.com/index.php?en" target="_blank">Plan01 collective</a>) designed the U-shaped residential building, which provides naturally daylit, energy-efficient apartments for low-income families through the social organization <a href="http://www.immobiliere3f.fr/" target="_blank">Immobilière3F</a>. Private balconies, a protected courtyard, and a grove of old trees make this project a charming place to live.1
Social Housing in BondyLocated on a site in Bondy, a town east of <a href="http://inhabitat.com/parisians-get-free-sparkling-water-on-tap/" target="_blank">Paris</a>, the new <a href="http://inhabitat.com/mecanoos-sustainable-social-housing-in-malaga-spain/" target="_blank">social housing project</a> is bordered by a gymnasium, school and suburban housing on avenue Henri Barbusse.2
Social Housing in BondyThe four-story building is shaped like a U, creating a protected interior courtyard and garden space for use by the residents. The roof of the building is reminiscent of traditional Parisian row houses with lofted ceilings.3

Social Housing in BondyThe facade facing the street is white terracotta, the interior is formed out of untreated wood, and exterior aluminum frames prevent thermal bridging.8
Social Housing in BondyApartments are accessed via semi-private staircases and entrances to each apartment can easily be converted into office space, making the apartments adaptable over the long-term.9
Social Housing in BondyThe communal areas are almost all naturally lit and painted in a range of monochromatic greens that contrast with the bright orange of the stairways.10
