Peugeot EX1 Concept Shatters Electric Car Lap Record at Nurburgring

The <a title="Peugeot" href="http://www.peugeot.com/en.aspx" target="_blank">Peugeot</a> EX1 <a title="Inhabitat: electric car" href="http://inhabitat.com/index.php?s=electric+car" target="_blank">electric car</a> concept, which has already broken <a title="Inhabitat: Peugeot EX1 Concept is a record-setting electric vehicle" href="http://inhabitat.com/blazing-fast-peugeot-ex1-concept-is-a-record-setting-electric-vehicle/" target="_blank">half a dozen speed records</a>, has added another notch to its belt. The EX1 recently obliterated the old lap record for electric cars at the <a title="Inhabitat: Nurburgring" href="http://inhabitat.com/index.php?s=nurburgring" target="_blank">Nurburgring's</a> Nordschleife - the world's proving ground for performance cars.

Peugeot just released these photos of the EX1 Concept going around the Nurburgring, where it set a near-9-minute record lap time.

The previous record holder for the fastest electric car lap at the Nurburgring was a full 50 seconds slower than the EX1, an astounding improvement.

The EX1 Concept originally debuted at the 2010 Paris International Auto Show, after which it set about breaking every electric car speed record out there.

The all-electric EX1 is powered by two motors that provide a total of 340 horsepower via the axles.

The EX1 is four-wheel drive for ultimate grip on the track.

In addition to the few pictures Peugeot released of the actual EX1 Nurburgring lap record car, we get to ogle the concept car's promotional pics, which look plenty racy.

The all-electric EX1 Concept has set new expectations for electric performance cars, in terms of design as well as performance.

Expect tech like this to pop up in future electric racing leagues, such as the recently proposed all-electric Formula 1 league.
