The Best Green Lighting from New York Design Week 2011!

There was certainly no shortage of <a href="http://www.inhabitat.com">green lighting</a> brightening up this year's <a href="http://inhabitat.com/new-york-design-week/">New York Design Week</a>, but if you were one of the unlucky few who found themselves cooped up inside working under less inspiring light, don't let that daily grind cast a shadow on your days. Our intrepid team of Inhabitants were on the scene scooping up the brightest energy-efficient lighting designs across the city, and we've rounded up our top green finds! Designed by <a href="http://inhabitat.com/aqua-creations-stunning-origami-led-lamps-are-folded-from-a-single-sheet-of-paper/">Aqua Creations</a>, each <a href="http://www.aquagallery.com/#/Lighting/Collection/Molecules">96 Molecules</a> lamp is crafted by folding a single sheet of paper without any other manipulations. The process emphasizes craftsmanship and creates a unique product that is not mass-produced - it takes a single person a full day to fold two pieces!

<a href="http://inhabitat.com/ismael-quinteros-odyssey-recycled-beer-bottle-lamp-pays-tribute-to-those-affected-by-911/">Ismael Quintero's</a> gorgeous Odyssey lamps by <a href="http://iqenvironments.com/product.html">iQEnvironments</a> are made from reycycled beer bottles and modeled after NYC fire hydrants.

Pacific Northwest-based <a href="http://inhabitat.com/perhacs-studio-unveils-brilliant-flat-pack-pendant-lamps-during-ny-design-week/">Perhacs Studio</a> unveiled a striking series of flat pack cardboard pendant lamps at the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/the-best-green-designs-from-model-citizens-2011/">Model Citizens exhibition</a>. The modular lamps are assembled from laser-cut cardboard shapes that come in a variety of forms ranging from simple soft geometries to complex branch-like designs.

<a href="http://www.aquagallery.com/">Aqua Creation’s</a> mesmerizing <a href="http://inhabitat.com/elegant-silk-gale-lamps-cast-an-atmospheric-glow-at-icff/">Gail Collection </a>is a series of beautiful suspended mobiles made using hand-dyed and treated crushed silk. The delicate material is drawn over black metal frames and illuminated from within with an energy-efficient CFL bulb.

<a href="http://francesranno.daportfolio.com/" target="_blank">Frances Ranno</a>‘s funny and fun <a href="http://inhabitat.com/cheeky-sneaker-shaped-lamp-by-frances-ranno-lightens-up-ny-design-week/" target="_blank">“Sneaks” sneaker lamp</a> made their debut at the Pratt Student Show during <a href="http://inhabitat.com/new-york-design-week/" target="_blank">NY Design Week’s</a>. Meshing a symbol of urban culture with <a href="http://inhabitat.com/google-unveils-brilliant-android-controlled-led-light-bulb/" target="_blank">energy efficient lighting</a>, the fixture incorporates a compact fluorescent bulb for long lasting life.

The Skip Light by <a href="http://tmiyakawadesign.com/">Takeshi Miyakawa</a> is an otherworldly illuminative block that features LED bulbs. If you're looking for a way to modernize your space, these are probably you best bet.

<a href="http://inhabitat.com/ross-menuezs-icosa-lamp-gives-recyclable-felt-a-crystalline-form/" target="_blank">Ross Menuez's</a> delicate felt Icosa Lamp  was inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s legendary <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geodesic_dome">Geodesic domes</a>. Muenuez’s take transforms the soft felt into a stable, crystalline form.

A group of <a href="http://www.philau.edu/">Philadelphia University</a> industrial design students worked with <a href="http://www.plyboo.com/">Plyboo</a> to showcase innovative new applications for the sustainable material. Designer <a href="http://www.peterstathis.com/">Peter Stathis</a> and lighting company <a href="http://joby.com/">JOBY</a> collaborated on this super bright LED Trapeze task lamp.

An Inhabitat favorite, we got a first hand glimpse of Hulger's stunning sculptural lightbulb <a href="http://inhabitat.com/hulgers-stunning-sculptural-plumen-bulbs-hit-the-market/">the Plumen</a>. The Plumen consumes up to 80% less electricity that incandescent bulbs and lasts eight times as long.

Using the traditional Japanese <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washi">washi</a> paper for the shade, <a href="http://inhabitat.com/dcs-corp-shows-off-their-enchanting-washi-cloud-lamps-at-icff/">DCS Corp</a> designed the cute cloud fixtures as enjoyable alternatives to boring table lamps.

These stunning <a href="http://inhabitat.com/qisdesigns-led-coral-reef-lamps-light-up-with-a-quick-flick-of-the-wrist/">Coral Reef lamps from QisDesign</a> light up with a just a quick flick of the wrist.The lamps feature three overlapping disc-shaped <a href="http://inhabitat.com/google-unveils-brilliant-android-controlled-led-light-bulb/">LED lights</a> that can be individually “switched on” when users pivot them on their hinges.

<a title="Pierre Ospina's" href="http://www.pierreospina.net/" target="_blank">Pierre Ospina's</a> forest of<a href="http://inhabitat.com/pierre-ospina-plants-a-forest-of-led-blossom-bulbs-at-icff/" target="_blank"> luminous "trees" </a>feature several innovative re-purposed materials, as well as low energy LED bulbs. The series of lamps created a much needed micro-sanctuary within the ICFF convention center.
